Richland Fine Art Gallery in Nashville, TN is hosting our
BEST OF AMERICA SMALL PAINTING NATIONAL JURIED EXHIBITION

April 30 - May 26

Richland Fine Art began operations on July 21, 2003 at Grace’s Plaza in the growing Green Hills area of Nashville, Tennessee. For fifteen years, the owners, Clay Whitelaw and Anne Goad, have focused on providing their clients the best in fine art. Many of their artists hail from across the country and are nationally prominent.

The gallery is on the second level of the Plaza, positioned along a thirty foot wide, one hundred-fifty foot long atrium that allows natural light during the day and is softly lit at night; the perfect place for an art event and reception. They have previously hosted a number of noteworthy art events, including: Oil Painters of America Eastern Region Exhibition, American Impressionist Society National Juried Competition, Plein Air Painters of the Southeast national event, and The Cumberland Society of Painters Juried Exhibition.

Richland is very pleased to welcome the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society to Nashville, and to host their 2018 spring event: “The Best of America Small Painting National Exhibition”

Dawn E. Whitelaw

Dawn Whitelaw is one of the artists in residence at On Track Studios in Franklin, Tennessee. The opportunity to paint “en plein air” with colleagues in the Plein Air Painters of the Southeast adds richness and honesty to her studio work.  Most of her formal instruction comes from continuing study with New York painter, Everett Raymond Kinstler.  Ms. Whitelaw is currently on the faculty of the Peninsula School of Art and the Portrait Society of America, where she holds the office of Vice Chairman.  In recent years, The Plein Air Convention and Expo featured her as an instructor in their conventions in Nevada and California and she has been on the faculty for Plein Air South two years.  For over 25 years she taught painting as an adjunct instructor at David Lipscomb University.  She continues to teach throughout the country by conducting workshops in oil painting principles and drawing.

Dawn has received many awards throughout her career, most recently American Art Collector’s Master Award of Excellence AIS Annual Juried Exhibition 2017. In 2012, 2013, and 2015, Plein Air Magazine included her work in feature articles. The American Impressionist Society elected her to Master status in 2016. She is a founding member of the Cumberland Society of Painters.

"The most difficult part about judging an exhibition is not choosing a painting for an award just because you “like It.” As a judge, I have to go beyond my personal preferences for style, subject matter, color etc, and dig down and find  excellent work. I look for paintings that are skilled in execution, shows the artist’ point of view and has imagination. Each artist juried Into the show can be assured that each and every painting will be carefully considered for an award."
-Dawn Whitelaw

selection process

Each entry is reviewed and scored by an independent jury panel.  The Jurying panel will consist of a minimum of 5 NOAPS Master Artists or Signature Members.  The panel selects paintings for the exhibit based on the quality and individual mastery of the medium.   IMPORTANT: Jurors in the panel make selections based on the image entered (make sure the image depicts a true representation of the painting). Jurors score the image only and do not see any information about the artist.
